Dr. Kurt Steinhaus, New Mexico's secretary of education, visited Santa Fe High School's (SFHS) community school food distribution on November 19th. The community school initiative at SFHS, jointly implemented with Student Government, WAVE and senior mentors, provides food in partnership with The Food Depot. The distribution served more than 100 families.
Following the visit, NEA-New Mexico called for full funding of a statewide rollout of the community schools strategy, saying that community schools are "an opportunity to invest in our communities, to make our schools more culturally responsive and to address the Yazzie-Martinez findings head-on."
