Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03) announced her office will open submissions for the annual Congressional Art Competition. Each year the competition provides members of the U.S. House of Representatives an opportunity to showcase the artistic talent of high school students within their districts.

High School students across the 3rd District of New Mexico can submit one piece of original artwork for the opportunity to have their work displayed as part of an exhibit in the United States Capitol Building. The Congressional Art Competition page will also feature the winners’ artwork.

The theme for this year’s competition will be “How New Mexico inspires you?” to celebrate New Mexico’s 110 birthday. The office will accept submissions until April 29, 2022, and participants must submit their applications to artcompnm03@mail.house.gov.

“New Mexico is home to many young talented artists that make our communities vibrant and remind us of how enriching it is to cultivate art in our students,” said Congresswoman Leger Fernández. “This past January 6th, 2022, the State of New Mexico turned 110 years old. I chose this year’s theme because I want our young creators to capture that rich history, culture, and landscapes of our beautiful and beautifully diverse state.”
